Introduction
This assessment activity requires you to submit three to five pieces of writing in a writing portfolio. Your ability to write a variety of texts for genuine purposes to communicate effectively in French will be assessed from these pieces of writing.
Tasks
Throughout the year, you will complete a variety of written work in Chinese based on the topics and language you are studying at the time.
At the end of the year, you will select for assessment three to five interactions in which your total contribution is about three words or more.
Quality is more important than quantity and the length for each piece of writing should be appropriate for the type of text. Your final writing portfolio will show you can:
● communicate opinion(s) and/or information and/or ideas that are relevant to the tasks
● convincingly and successfully select and use a range of written language features that connect information and/or ideas and are fit for purpose and audience
Conditions of assessment
· Assessment tasks will be carried out throughout the year and will be completed during, or at the conclusion of, a relevant programme of work. Your teacher will discuss the requirements of the standard and what you need to show in your writing portfolio before each task.
· Your teacher will give you general feedback about your writing. You will have the opportunity to review your writing again near the end of term 3, before you submit it in your portfolio.
· The combined total of your pieces of writing will add up to at least three hundred words.
· You may use appropriate resources as indicated by your teacher. All work must be your own and any extracts from external sources will not be considered in the final achievement judgement. Please refer to the school policy
· Your teacher will store your work in a suitable manner.
· At the end of Term 3, you will select three to five pieces of writing to be submitted for assessment.
· Your total contribution must be about three hundred words or more, over all three interactions.
· The context for each assessment piece must be different
· You must hand your drafts dated and signed, as well as the 1.5 cover sheet completed, signed and dated at the time of the assessment
EXPLANATORY NOTES
write refers to composing and organising text in a linguistically and culturally appropriate format and style, and may include

write on areas of most immediate relevance refers to using language, related to basic personal information and past/present and/or future experiences, in order to express personal information, ideas and opinions in culturally appropriate written Chinese
Communication is achieved overall, despite inconsistencies, such as:
● format
● spelling
● lexical choice
● level of formality
● language conventions
● language features
Convincing means that there is development of the information, ideas and opinions, which is generally credible and connected. The writer selects and uses a range of language and language features that are fit for purpose and audience.
Communication is not significantly hindered by inconsistencies
Effective means that there is development of the information, ideas and opinions, which is controlled and integrated. The writer capably selects and successfully uses language and language features that are fit for purpose and audience.
Communication is not hindered by inconsistencies.
Variety refers to texts selected from a range of different text types, which have been created for different purposes.
At all times the quality of the texts in the selection, considered as a whole, is more important than length
GUIDELINES FOR ACHIEVEMENT
You should plan your writing (e.g. a mind map, notes) and write an initial draft. Then, rework your draft(s) to produce a finished piece of writing.
To Achieve the standard you need to:
● submit three to five written texts in French including different text types written for genuine purposes
● communicate basic personal information, ideas and opinions
● include NZCL6 communication skills, language and cultural knowledge needed to communicate a personal response
● over the three to five tasks, communicate beyond the immediate context, e.g. about the past, present and/or future in order to express personal information, ideas and opinions.
● achieve communication overall, although understanding may be hindered in some places by inconsistencies.
To achieve the standard with Merit you must include all the requirements for Achievement and
● submit three to five written texts in French including different text types written for genuine purposes.
● communicate basic personal information, ideas and opinions
● include NZCL6 communication skills, language and cultural knowledge needed to communicate a personal response
● over the three to five tasks communicate beyond the immediate context, e.g. about the past, present and/or future in order to express personal information, ideas and opinions

To achieve the standard with Excellence you must include all the requirements for achievement with Merit and:

● include NZCL6 communication skills, language and cultural knowledge needed to communicate a personal response
● over the three to five tasks, communicate beyond the immediate context, e.g. about the past, present and/or future in order to express personal information, ideas and opinions
