Chinese 1.3 and 1.5 Task 5 How to get there

The biggest international sport event, Rugby World Cup 2011 which New Zealand had ever hosted since 1987 is on the corner. During Rugby World Cup 2011 period, from the beginning of September till the end of October, we will expect hundreds of thousands competitors and visitors from many different countries to come New Zealand. Even though English is now international language, but we will expect some people still need help in some ways in their own languages, especially Mandarin help for Chinese visitors. Since there are only few of New Zealand high schools provide Mandarin classes, as a student learning Mandarin at high school, you are chosen to be a volunteer at information center set up at some key places, such as Eden Park Stadium, Albany Stadium and City Centre…etc. to help Chinese mandarin speakers to direct or guide them to the place they would like to go and visit, whenever they need your help. (You must include present, past and future expressions)
Role A: Volunteer helper at any information centre you choose.
Role B: Visitor from any Mandarin speaking country.
Your conversation could include the following points
  • Ø  Greeting to each other
  • Ø  Asking if someone knows something
  • Ø  The destinations and the features or positions of destinations
  • Ø  The reference points and the features or positions of reference points
  • Ø  The directions to reference points and destinations
  • Ø  The distances from points to points and to destinations
  • Ø  The length of time required from points to points and to destinations
  • Ø  The indefinite numbers
  • Ø  The modes of transports
  • Ø  Stating before or after an event
